How I Got Rid of Dark Spots

Last year I suffered terribly from some adult acne. Much of it was hormonal, some was due to reactions to trying a multitude of products.

After all of my attempts and finally success of getting the acne to subside, I was left with many dark spots/scars on my face. As someone who likes to be bare faced more than I like to wear makeup, this was a problem. As someone who never experienced acne as a teen and working in the beauty industry, you can only imagine how traumatic of a time this was for me.

I was back on the hunt to find the perfect products that would get rid of the dark spots and restore the texture and glow to my skin. After months of trial and error I found a number of products that worked for me.

The two main ingredients that worked for me for glycolic acid and hyaluronic acid. Glycolic acid helped with dissipating the acne and exfoliating the skin while improving tone and texture. Hyaluronic acid was very hydrating and plumping to the skin so it wouldn’t be dull. Other great ingredients are Vitamin C which can be found in many skin brightening products.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

This facial oil is like magic. I have talked about it before in my post about Favorite Facial Oils. Used in the evening with just two small drops, it completely transforms the skin. It’s almost as if you can feel faeries doing needlepoint on  your skin. You can purchase it here.

Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution

There was a point I finally got the acne to subside, but after using drying lotions I was left with dark spots. After using samples of the Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution, I was able to see noticeable changes in my skin in a matter of days. You could only use it at night, and must use a sunscreen the next day. You can purchase this treatment here.

Cane and Austin Peel Pads

I was introduced to Cane and Austin peel pads while working at SpaceNK. My manager upon seeing my heavily broken out skin, took one look at me and gave me gratis and said “try these”. In two weeks flat not only was the acne gone, but my skin was clear in tone and texture. I was more than amazed, and knew that they were worth EVERY penny.

With one pad in the morning and one in the evening after cleansing, these retexturizing pads were magic. I started with the 2% salicylic 5% glycolic and then moved up to 10% glycolic. There is a 20% for more stubborn acne and spots as well as 30%. You can purchase the 2%/5% combo pads here and the 10%/20%/30% pads here.

Rodial Dragon’s Blood Night Cream

Key benefits include: reduction of redness and inflammation; refined texture while improving dry dehydrated skin; corrects skin tone and diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, mildly exfoliates skin. Rodial Super Acids Cleanser

The Rodial Super Acids cleanser has been amazing for daily use. Great for all skin types, it contains glycolic acid which will help the texture and tone of skin, but it doesn’t leave it dry. The mild cleanser with a gel like consistency has a subtle lather but really cleanses the skin. You can purchase it here.
