Apps for Mindfulness and Meditation

As I continue on my journey for perfect peace and ways to mitigate triggers and deal with anxiety, I have started using a number of tools and apps that always seem to keep me centered and grounded.

While I believe in God and higher powers, I also believe in meditation and healing crystals, burning sage and smudging and even tarot. I’m not a religious person by any means and more spiritual than anything, but that is another post for another day.

I’m very big on being intentional with my time and making sure the energy and vibe surrounding me is one of peace, but the best way for me to do that is start with myself.

Here are some apps I have on my phone that I regularly use to help maintain perfect peace (outside of calling my therapist).

Jesus Calling Devotional

The Jesus Calling 365 Day Devotional by Sarah Young is wildly popular and something I enjoy very much. It’s the first thing I read after I wake up and say a prayer. While I have a physical book (which I prefer) you can download the app as well. The app includes: full devotional text and full written out scripture; ability to keep notes for devotionals; access to podcasts, interviews, other Sarah Young titles and more.l This app is available on Apple Store as well as Google Play and is $9.99

You Version Holy Bible

The Holy Bible app by You Version is something I use every day when I’m on a hot streak. Each day there is a scripture of the day on the home page. I more frequently use this as a substitute for my physical Bible to reference scriptures quickly. There are numerous versions/translations of the Bible on this app as well as an option to hear the text audibly. Another use I have for this app is  the devotional plans. This app is available for iPhone/iPad, Android and Kindle Fire and is 100% free.

Relax Melodies

Relax Melodies is designed to be a sleep-aid app to help you fall asleep quickly and wake up refreshed. You can create your own mix of sounds and do guided meditations. I especially use this app on nights where anxiety may be high and I’m having trouble sleeping. Any sounds you can think of that may be soothing to you are on here. Available on Apple Store or Google Play. While the app is free there are some in app purchases and upgrades that you can make.

Calm

Calm is the #1 app for meditation and sleep. I’ve done a few guided meditations on this app especially before bed. You can tailor your mediations to what it is you’re looking to achieve (reduce anxiety, sleep better, peace, etc.) There are even bedtime stories and exercises for children. Available on Apple Store and Google Play, after a 7 day trial this app is $14.99 per month with a premium subscription.

Abide

Abide is an app that is new to me and suggested by a friend. The goal for this app is “for the world to experience the peach of Christ through biblical meditation”. So far I am enjoying this app as it is a combination of meditation and scripture. Some think that the two are different and don’t belong, but I feel as though they are synonymous. This app is available on Apple Store. After a 7 day free trial the app is $4.99-$9.99 a month (standard vs premium membership).

Pattern

The Pattern app is the ultimate astrological drag. Based upon your birth chart, this app accurately pinpoints the ebbs and flows of your life and assesses your personality. I like this app because it makes me feel “seen” and not as if I’m crazy for the way I feel sometimes. I think it also helps me communicate and articulate my feelings better with others. You may be cursing this app out wondering which FBI agent has been tracking you and giving over all of your deep dark secrets that you’ve told no one but God. Available on Apple Store and Google Play this app is free.

If you’re using any of these apps I would love to know your experience and if there are any apps you’d like to suggest, feel free to leave them in the comments below!
