Gua Sha Facial Massage

Did you know that there are 42 muscles in the face that we use to make facial expressions? These same muscles also hold stress and tension. Gua Sha facial massaging is an ancient Chinese gentle massaging method focusing on health and detoxification by draining lymph (toxins). The technique releases tension in muscles and connective tissues of the face, neck and head, which in turn reduces stress and improves facial contouring.

I first received this massage at the end of a facial with my esthetician and it was life changing. I was absolutely amazed at how lifted and sculpted my face was with such gentle movements and under 10 minutes.

The Gua Sha tool has a smooth crystal shape with different curves to use on different parts of the face. It is often jade or rose quartz and is ideal for draining, lifting and brightening, and perfect for neck and shoulder tension. Please note, do not use this massage technique if you have cosmetic fillers, broken skin, active acne or rosacea.

What You Need

You can perform this massage technique daily (in the evenings) or 2-3 times per week. Here is what you will need:

-Gua Sha shaping tool (shop here)

-Hydrating Face Mist

-Facial Oil*

-Bowl of Ice Water (optional)

*facial serums and moisturizers shouldn’t be used for massage, and be sure your oil of choice isn’t for brightening as you may experience more flushness in your face.

Cleaning Your Tool

Be sure to clean your tool after each use with warm soapy water. Dry your tool off and store in a cool place like your refrigerator.
