Winter can be extremely harsh on your skin if you’re not prepared or taking care of it. There is no need to suffer from dry, scaly and/or cracked skin this winter.
Here are some tips on how to properly treat and care for your skin during the winter months. Please note these tips are great for your scalp as well! Your scalp is just like any other skin on your body.
1. Change Your Cleanser
Skip the foaming cleanser, and switch to a milk formula or something more mild than you were using in previous months. Foaming cleansers will have harsher ingredients that could be potentially stripping your skin.
2. Change Your Moisturizer
Kick it up a notch on your moisturizer. If you have super dry skin like me, go for something heavier. If you have oily skin, don’t think skipping moisturizer is ok, because its not. Use something a bit heavier, or add a facial oil to your routine.
3. Take Shorter Cooler Showers
Now I know women tend to love scolding hot showers, but they’re doing your skin a disservice during the winter months. The hot water is breaking down the lipid barrier of your skin, and making it more difficult for your skin to retain any moisture.
4. Exfoliate Mildly
While you should already be exfoliating 1 to 2 times a week, make sure it’s a mild exfoliate and not too harsh. If you have been using scrubs, opt for a sugar based one as opposed to salt.
5. Hydrate From The Inside Out
You already know how this goes. Drink water sis! And lots of it. Hydration is the name of the game.
6. Use Hydration Masks
We know I love a good mask, and they’re not all for just making the skin glow or sucking everything out of your pores. Opt for a hydration mask 2 to 3 times a week to ensure your skin’s thirst is quenched and its soft and plump.
7. Use Acids (Salicylic and Hyaluronic)
Using Salicylic and Hyaluronic acids are great for not only mildly exfoliating and retexturing the skin, but adding extreme surges of moisture to the skin. Light in formula, they’re not too heavy to clog the pores. Great option for all skin types.
I hope these tips were helpful. Stay tuned for specific product recommendations for all the points listed above!
